NECC calling for environmental fact-finding mission to Gaza

NECC calling for environmental fact-finding mission to Gaza

“Most of Gaza is floating over a sea of gray water,” said Ramzi Zananiri, head of the NECC - the Middle East Council of Churches' (MECC) service for refugees. Problems include the dumping of wastewater from Israeli settlements as well as Israel's continued blockade which prevents materials needed for maintaining and upgrading the overburdened water treatment plants from reaching Gaza.

Zananiri who was attending the General Council of The United Church of Canada called for an international ecumenical fact-finding mission to come to Gaza and witness with their own eyes the severe environmental problems in the area, and how they are linked to the occupation. Both the NECC and the United Church of Canada are members of the Ecumenical Water Network.
